Mangrove propagules

A propagule is a mangrove seedling (baby plant). They grow on the mangrove tree and then when they mature, they drop into the water. They then float, traveling with the currents, remaining dormant until lodging itself safely in the soil, where it sprouts roots and begins to grow.

Did you know?

Not all mangrove propagules find a suitable location; some wash up in locations they are unable to grow in, so dry out.
