The Beachcombers Education Kit connects everyone with an interest in the coastal and marine environment with resources specific to Western Australia’s unique marine ecosystems and explores the challenges facing the sustainability of our aquatic resources.
Western Australia has over 12,500 kms of coastline to explore. In 2017, the resources will be expanded to be relevant to a greater proportion of our extensive coastline.
The original physical Perth Beachcombers Education Kit included a field guide, carry bag, poster and a CD containing information sheets and activities. This was made possible through funding from Coastwest and the Western Australian Planning Commission, and the Department of Fisheries – now Fisheries division of Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. It was also supported by our community partners – Friends of Marmion Marine Park, Padbury Senior High School and many others such as the Western Australian Museum.
The online version of the Beachcombers Education Kit follows the success of the original physical kit, allowing far more people to discover more about our amazing coastline.
The ever popular Beachcombing Field Guide is still available as a downloadable PDF and was also developed as an app by the Northern Agricultural Catchments Council and Fisheries.
