The Beachcombers Education Kit provides teachers and students with the opportunity to participate in both field-based and classroom teaching-learning programs. These programs will give students the knowledge and skills that will enable them to make better decisions about what they do and the impact they have on the coastal and marine environment.
The aim of the kit is to provide a range of experiences that will develop knowledge, awareness, skills and attitudes that lead to individual behaviours consistent with living in a sustainable manner.
By using the kit, you will be able to:
- explore the diversity of organisms found on Western Australian beaches;
- increase understanding of why and how organisms are classified;
- investigate the effects of human impact (such as marine debris) on the beach and marine life; and
- create a beach profile and monitor changes to the beach over time.
The information and activities that are outlined in the Beachcombers Education Kit address outcomes in all three strands of the Science learning area, and in particular, the biological sciences sub-strand. Learning experiences also develop knowledge, understanding and skills relating to the cross-curriculum priority of sustainability.
Lessons in the Beachcombers Education Kit are currently undergoing a review and new learning experiences will be available later in 2017.
Further lessons relating to information in the Beachcombers Education Kit may be found on the Marine WATERs website.
