European shore crab

Already found in Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales, this pest crab is green/brown in colour with red/orange on the undersides of larger animals.  The hind legs are sharp and slightly flattened for walking on the shores of mainly bays and estuaries.  It also has a broad triangular-shaped smooth shell about the size of a match box, with five spines down each side. This greedy predator eats many different foods, including native shellfish.
